Dimension Input

DynaRod User's Guide Preface How to use DynaRod Trouble Shooting Table of Contents

Function General

This panel is to be used to specify dimension one by one for each point on the rod.
Irregular point numbers are acceptable.  DynaRod can propagate them into 1" point intervals later at [Change Spec.(Propagate)] and [Rod Parts] function respectively.

How to use:

When this panel is shown with no dimension data, you can enter the lines of data one by one.  You must press [Save] button to record the entry in DynaRod.

Functions

There are several functions to adjust the taper as follows;
Direct change
Dimension data can be modified within the Dimension input area.
Adjustment line by line
+- offset values can be entered beside current dimension value before reflecting the change.  By pressing [Do it now!] button, the offset values are reflected to the dimension of entered line.
Adjustment entire length
A single +- offset value can be entered on Entire Adjustment field.  By pressing [Do it now!] button, the offset value is reflected to the entire length of the rod.

Important:  In either case, user need to press [Save] button to save the entry or the changes  into DynaRod.

Function buttons

Name Function
toggle unit switch the unit between inch and mm .
Do it now! reflect the +- offset value accordingly at once
Save saves the data according to the Dimension input area.
Return to Archive returns to Archive panel.  Entered data are gone if [Save] button is not pressed.

Data on the screen

Item Meaning
Dimension input area
Rod ID the rod id which user is working on
Point the point on the rod
Dimension the dimension at the rod point
Adjustment +- enter the offset value with + or - on the line that you want to modify.   [Do it now!] button will reflect the offset.
Entire Adjustment +- enter the offset value with + or -.  This offset is reflected to entire length of the rod.  [Do it now!] button will reflect the offset.
Varnish Thickness to subtract enter this data in a case the entered dimension includes varnish thickness.  This often happens when the taper data is measured from the existing rod.  The specified thickness is subtracted when [Rod Parts] generates parts data and 1" dimension data internally.  The entered taper data to this panel is recorded as it is as original taper data.
Glue Thickness to subtract enter this data in a case the entered dimension includes a significant glue thickness.  This often happens when the taper data is measured from the existing rod.  The specified thickness is subtracted when [Rod Parts] generates parts data and 1" dimension data internally.  The entered taper data to this panel is recorded as it is as original taper data.

Taper data in DynaRod

DynaRod is maintaining the following two kinds of taper data.
Original taper data (so called 5" taper data)
The taper data entered by user with specified PF station interval.  This taper may include varnish thickness and/or glue thickness which should be subtracted to get a naked taper of bamboo blanks.
Internally generated taper data (so called 1" taper data)
For the sake of internal calculation, all the original taper data are converted to 1" taper data.  Original taper might include various options such as random point dimension, different PF station intervals, inclusion of thickness to be subtracted.
DynaRod needs to have a single definition of taper data as a naked blank taper.
This allows users to take out the taper of DynaRod by any intervals specified, too.  Entering taper by 5" and take it out by 6" interval, for instance.

To record Irregular Points/Dimensions

DynaRod can accept irregular Point specifications on Point fields.

Basically the panel shows the point figures based on the specification of PF Station interval.
In the Dimension Input window, you can modify the point number as you like.
In this case, zero or null dimension fields are not permitted so far.  It means that all the remained lines in the window must have dimension values.  For the purpose, the zero or null lines needs to be erased via record selector with right mouse button.

As the Dimension Input panel on [New Rod] specification does not have [propagate] button, the entered irregular points/dimensions are recorded here and carried over to [Change Spec.] or [Rod Parts] panel for propagation to 1" taper.

So the clever usage of irregular input is to use [New Rod] entry to enter a straight taper once.  Then move to [Change Spec.], open Dimension Input tab, erase the existing entries and enter irregular taper and propagate.

In any case, the entered taper numbers are forced to be propagated at [Rod Parts] function to create internal 1" taper.  This is one of the reason why [Rod Parts] must be executed prior to the following calculations.
