Section Specification

DynaRod User's Guide Preface How to use DynaRod Trouble Shooting Table of Contents

Up

Function General

This panel allows users to specify the details by rod section in the case the rod is Hybrid, or the numbers of varnish coating is to be changed.
Hollow rod is treated as "Hybrid" rod in DynaRod since each of hollow rod sections is to be uniquely defined.

What is Hybrid rod?

Hybrid rod is a rod which uses different kind of materials or specifications on each section of the rod.
For instance, different bamboos on each section, different cross section for each section, solid and hollow in combination, etc..

To design Hybrid rod, the used bamboo field of the basic (Archive) rod specification need to have "Hybrid" and this section specification must have details one by one.

When the Solid/Hollow field on the parent panel is changed to "Hollow", the Used Bamboo field is automatically changed to "Hybrid" and this Section Specification is displayed so that users can specify the details of hollow options.

After DynaRod version 2.8, it became possible, on both of [Design By] functions, to calculate dimensions for any Hybrid rod including Hollowed rod.

How to use:

Specifies the following information on each section;

Number of varnish coating
Bamboo
Cross Section
Solid or Hollow
Hollow Specifications

Data on the screen

The following data items are directly connected with the data base in DynaRod, and reflected when entered into the fields on the panel.

Item Meaning
Section No. Section title and suffix
Length (inch) the length of the section in inch.  Ferrule length is adjusted.
Length (cm) the length of the section in cm.  Ferrule length is adjusted.
Number of Coat shows default as 3 coats for tip section and 4 coats for mid and butt sections.  Changeable.

Hybrid Specifications for each section

After defining the Hollow specification, "Half Dimension and Hollow Cutting Plan" graph is displayed by pressing [Verify Hybrid Spec and View Inner Taper] button.

Item Meaning
used Bamboo select from pull down
Cross Section select from pull down.  This is the cross section of outside for the section
Solid/Hollow select from pull down
Hollow options for a hollow rod, the following options need to be defined
Inner Taper Option Select from pull down for;

"constant":     wall thickness is to be constant

"straight":
wall thickness is to be tapered straight internally
To make this sure, the inner taper slope is defined by the line which is              calculated as follows;
from -start section's dimension (left side) x start section hollow ratio
to-end section's dimension (right side) x end section hollow ratio

"%dimension":
wall thickness is to be tapered in proportion of outer dimensions
For this,  the inner hollow ratio is defined by the calculation below;
from - start section hollow ratio
to-end section hollow ratio
At each rod point between start section and end section, hollow ratio is taken from the hollow ratio slope.
In a case of start section hollow ratio = end section hollow ratio, the resulted inner taper becomes the same % to the outer dimensions at every rod point  between the start and the end section.

Wall Thickness for "constant" option of Inner Taper Option, specify wall thickness value.
Hollow Start
Section#
Specify the start section numb.   Section number is to be counted as the number of one inch sections through the entire rod length.  1 is the first 1 inch section on which the hollow cutting is to be started.
Hollow Start
Ratio
Specify the hollow ratio which is to be applied to the hollow start section.  The ratio is applied to the left side of the section.
Hollow End
Section#
Specify the end section number.   Section number is to be counted as the number of one inch sections through the entire rod length.  50 is the 50th inch section on which the hollow cutting is to be ended.
Hollow End
Ratio
Specify the hollow ratio which is to be applied to the hollow end section.  The ratio is applied to the right side of the section.
Hollow Shape Specify the cross section of the hollowed area as follows;
"Flute":    The hollow cross section is round.
"Flat":      The hollow cross section is the same to the outer cross section.
Cutting Manner Specify how the hollow is to be cut through the rod as follows;
"Scallop":  The cutting is to be made by Scalloping, dammed, or arched.
"Straight":  The cutting is to be made straight through the section.
Offset Specify the length of the offset from the start position (the left side of the start section).
Arch Length Specify the length of the arch (plunge) in the case of "Scallop" option.
Arch Length Increment Specify the increase ratio of the arch length.  ex. 1.1 is 10% increase against the previous arch.
Cutting Tool
Diameter
Specify the diameter of the hollow cutting tool.
Bypass Height Specify the height which is needed to bypass the strip's apex.

Hollow Cutting Concept

Any Hollow Cutting Plan implements the concept as depicted below;

Start position is decided by the left side of   "Hollow Start Section".
End position is decided by the right side of "Hollow End Section".
For Scallop option, DynaRod will calculate "Next Start position" of the Arch set in order to make it within the range of start-end section#.  Sometimes the "End position" of the last Arch set may be apart from the right side of "Hollow End Section#".
This is at the discretion of "Users".
Any plunge (Arch) has offset on both sides.  Offset length is same, as specified, on both sides of a plunge.
Next start position of Scallop is decided by the calculation.
The length of Arch can be incremented by ratio in the case of "Scallop".
Tool's center is calculated by the DynaRod to assure the offset length.
